Together with out partners to strive to bring AI and Computer Vision to new and exciting applications.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This page gives an overview of our current public funded research projects.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h1>KoSiNuS Part I<\/h1>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Schaubild-KoSiNuS-1.png\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">Autonomous mobile machines such as agricultural robots or construction equipment require reliable perception systems. However, for medium-sized companies, corresponding technologies are often not accessible or economically feasible.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">In the KoSiNuS project, Saxon suppliers are working together with Fraunhofer IVI to develop central components for autonomous working machines: from environment and person detection to robust hardware and modular autonomy control software. A particular focus is on the safe use of AI and machine learning \u2013 so that AI-based systems function reliably even under uncertain conditions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">The goal is a regional supplier network that supports manufacturers of agricultural and construction machinery with practical solutions for autonomous systems.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">The consortium partners are Fraunhofer IVI, Hydrive Engineering, FusionSystems, SIListra Systems, and Gr\u00fcnspecht Vision Labs.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h1>AI Foundation Model for Defect Detection on Wood Materials<\/h1>\n<div>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">As part of this EU-funded project, a novel AI foundation model for object and defect detection in the wood industry is being developed. Within the scope of the innovation assistant&#8217;s work, a foundation model for defect detection and quality analysis of wood along the entire value chain will be created.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">The new AI model should be able to recognize typical features and defects of boards, veneers, and other intermediate products independent of the process step, from sawmill to furniture manufacturing. These features include, for example, branches\/knot holes, discoloration and cracks in the sawmill, or scratches, dents and roughness in furniture manufacturing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">Parts of the development work are co-financed by the program &#8222;Innovation Assistant AI Foundation Model for Defect Detection on Wood Materials&#8220;.
